BEYOND EDUCATION TALKS: METAVERSE

We started the Beyond Education Talks within the scope of Beyond Education Summit.Beyond Education Talks are held to talk about the important issues of our age that are particularly relevant to the youth. These are organized with the contribution of the Lacivert magazine and with the participation of valuable speakers.

The first program titled "Metaverse: Imposing an Alternative World" was moderated by Mustafa Akar, Editor-in-Chief of Lacivert magazine with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Dağ of Uludağ University and new media researcher Selvanur Yazıcı Sezgin.

Before the panel, our teachers had the opportunity to experience the established VR booth for a day. They also answered the questions asked about Metaverse and NFT in the prepared survey. In addition, we observed how closely youth follow the digital world in the video prepared with the answers of our students to these questions.

With the start of the panel, our guests touched on the historical ground on which the concept of Metaverse is based, and conveyed that this concept was not invented today and actually constitutes one of the foundations of Western thought. Stating that the roots of the Metaverse concept go back to Plato, Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Dağ stated that this concept, which means "the other world", is one of the frequent stops of philosophy.

Mentioning that the concept of Metaverse did not enter our lives all of a sudden, they expressed the difficulties of societies for a while in the acceptance process of each new development, but later on these difficulties were overcome when they found a place in life. They indicated that with the developing technology, these adaptation processes are shortened and societies are keeping up with the developments faster.

In addition, Yazıcı stated that projects can be carried beyond thought, and said that while we are raising our youth, we should definitely give hope and encourage them to be able to work for the future.

The panel ended after the question and answer session. Our teachers left the program stating that it was a very productive panel.
