Ayla Ağabegüm was born in Bilecik in 1940. In 1967, she graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. She was the high school literature teacher of a number of writers and journalists who would later become famous in Istanbul. Between 1985 and 1990, she worked as the editor-in-chief of Turkish Literature Journal. Her writings in “a Teacher’s Diary” caught the attention of large groups. In 1992, she wrote the essay book “Sözle Direnmek” (Resist with Words). She also has a poetry book named “Mısralarla Konuşsak” (If we talked with the Verses).
